CATBALOGAN, Samar, Philippines
– Sunday is a day of gladness because it is a day of worship. However, to
the members of this church, this particular day of worship and gladness
turned into sadness and anguish when unidentified armed men shot a man and
his son to death last November 9 at about 1:45
in the afternoon in Barangay 13, Patag District this town.
Catbalogan Police Station Officer-in-charge Police Chief Inspector Vivencio
Suarez identified the victims as certain Technical Sergeant Jesus Dacles,
48, and John Dacles, 7, both residents of Barangay Maulong of this
municipality.
Dacles who was a faithful member of the United
Pentecostal Church (UPC), located at the place wherein the said armed men
shot him and his son, was said to have sustained 17 gunshots in his body
particularly on his head.
PNP initial investigation led by SPO2 Siegfred Obong shows that Jesus with
his two children were already riding the motorcycle going home and have just
attended their church service when two gunmen shot the victim several times
including his son who was seating in front of him. Fortunately, the other
son seated behind him was able to run away and hid himself.
In an interview with some of the church
members, it was raining that time, they said, the victims were standing
outside the church’s gate waiting for the rain to stop, when suddenly
gunshots from outside were heard.

namon nga hi Brother an gin-pusil pati iya anak pero nakadto na hira han
sarakyan”,
they said.
Suspects were believed to be
members of the New People's Army (NPA) Sparrow Unit, Police Chief Inspector
Suares says based on the system and weapons used in slaying the victims
wherein authorities recovered empty shells of a 9mm and caliber 45 pistols
from the crime scene.
“Akon pagkasbot mga sparrow
unit adto nga dumale tungod han sistema ngan armas nga ira ginamit”,
Suares said.
Nevertheless, PCInsp. Suares
assures that the case would be solved because of the lead they hold about
the suspect.
Meanwhile on the same day of
November 9, a separate incident happened when an unidentified person shot a
buko (young coconut) vendor to death at about 6:55 in the
afternoon in Catbalogan public market while closing his store, police
authority disclosed.
Police identified the victim as certain Felimon
Silao, of legal age and a resident of Poblacion 2 Barangay 13 of this town.
The victim sustained three
gunshot wounds in his body and was brought to the Samar Provincial Hospital
but proclaimed dead upon arrival.
Police who responded to the
crime scene led by SPO3 Domingo Relao, recovered two slugs and two empty
shells of caliber 45 pistol
Further investigations according
to PCInspt. Suares, were able to identified the suspect but abstain from
giving the suspect’s name while follow-up investigation is on going.
As of this writing, suspects are
still at large and the Catbalogan Police Station was alerted because of the
incidents. (see

Kagawad shot dead by a farmer

TARANGNAN, Samar, Philippines
– Few hours after getting into the hospital for an immediate medical
treatment, his attending physician pronounced him dead because of a serious
gunshot wound sustained in the right side portion of his body.
Police identified the victim as certain William
Stien y Arbes, 36, single, and a kagawad of Barangay Balugo of this
municipality, while the identified suspect was certain Rufino Arfon, 48,
married and a farmer resident of the said village.
Police Inspector Chito D. Cano, Tarangnan PNP
Chief disclosed that the suspect and the victim were both full of wine and
at around 6:30 in the afternoon of October 30 this year, the victim William,
with unknown reason was gunned down by the suspect using a 38-caliber
revolver. “The victim sustained gun shoot wound penetrating through the
right side portion of his body exiting to the opposite side of his body,”
PInsp. Cano said.
In an interview, residents of the said village
narrated that after the incident happened the suspect did not immediately
escaped from the place instead with the gun in his hand, walked at the
village’s road near the Maharlika Highway
firing his 38 caliber pistol.
Residents tried to bring the victim to Samar Provincial Hospital, but they
were afraid of the suspect who was firing his gun.
The victim was brought to the Samar Provincial
Hospital in a single motorcycle at about 7:00 pm,
but unfortunately died 9:00 pm.
As of this writing, suspect is still at large and the Tarangnan PNP is now
looking for the suspect.
6 drug pushers voluntarily
surrenders to Samar PNP

CAMP LUKBAN, Catbalogan, Samar – Six well-known
drug pushers in the province including two in the capital town of Catbalogan
voluntarily surrendered themselves to police authorities and expressed their
commitments to abandon their illegal drug trade.
PSSupt. Conrado Verzo
Calvario, (DSC), Samar PNP Provincial Director, said that the voluntary
surrender of these pushers is a result of the intensified campaign of the
Philippine National Police to eradicate the illegal drug menace in the
province. He added that with this development, he expect others to follow
suit since the government is very serious in its campaign to minimize, if
not totally eliminate the illegal drug problem in the country. The Samar PPO
will continue to conduct intensified anti-narcotics operations in the next
few days, he averred.
Two of the suspects based in
Catbalogan whose names has been withheld for security reasons, personally
give themselves in to PSSupt Calvario last September 3 at the Samar Police
Provincial Office. The duo were included in the Philippine Drug Enforcement
Agency (PDEA) watchlist of drug personalities.
The two pushers signed a
covenant not to engage in illegal drug activities anymore and further
manifested their willingness to help the PNP on its anti-drug campaign. They
signed the covenant/commitment in the presence of PSSupt CALVARIO; Inspector
II Gregorio Caidic, NAPOLCOM Provincial Director, Brgy. Canlapwas Kagawad
Pompio Jaromay and Brgy. Muñoz Kagawad and media representative Yul de la
Cruz and other top officials of the Samar Anti-Illegal Drugs Special
Operation Task Force (AID-SOTF).
Meanwhile, four known drug
pushers also voluntarily surrendered last August 30 in Sta. Margarita, Samar.
PSSupt Calvario identified the surrenderees as Lito Casillano y Lamoste of
Brgy. Inoraguiao; Edgardo Rebucas alias Ed and Frederick Felices y Del Prado
alias Tanonie, both of Brgy. Napuro and Zuelo Caber y Giray, Jr. alias Jun
of Brgy. Lumbao, all of the said municipality. The four, together with
their respective Barangay Chairmen, personally went to Sta. Margarita AID-SOTF
and signed a sworn affidavit stating that they will no longer engage in
illegal drug trade in the presence of SB Member Chlit Mabute, their
respective Barangay Captains and PSInsp Nestor G Valenzuela, Sta. Margarita
police chief.
Subsequently, last September 3, same drug personalities signed a
covenant/commitment not to engage anymore in illegal drugs business and
expressed their willingness to help the PNP in its drive to fight the drug
menace.
Said events
were part of the PNP’s left-hand approach to completely eradicate the
proliferation of illegal drugs in the province.
PNP
nabs 2 hold-up suspects

CAMP LUKBAN, Catbalogan, Samar – Two suspected hold-uppers believed to
be responsible in the series of robbery-hold up incidents along Maharlika
highway recently were apprehended by police authorities last August 31.
PSSup Conrado
Verzo Calvario (DSC), Samar PNP Provincial Director, identified the suspects
as Decoroso de la Cruz alias Docoy and Gaudencio Obiado, both of legal ages
and residents of Brgy. Puhagan, Gandara, Samar.
The suspects
were arrested by a police team led by PInsp Renencio L. Raquipo, San Jorge
police chief, and composed of SPO1 Decoroso Monsanto, PO1 Vivencio Cabrino
and PO1 Carlo Badiola in Brgy. Lapaz, San Jorge, samar.
The police team responded to
verify the reported presence of suspected hold-uppers in the said village
which has resulted to the arrest of the suspects and the confiscation of a
cellophane containing dried marijuana leaves weighing more or less
11.6 grams and a bladed weapon.
Upon further investigation,
it was learned that the two were identified responsible in the robbery/hold
up of Philtranco bus at the vicinity of Brgy. Bungan, Gandara, Samar last
August 21, this year but went into hiding in Brgy. Lapaz, San Jorge town
following the manhunt operation conducted by elements of Gandara PNP.
A case for violation of Sec
11, Art. II of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 was
already filed against the suspects before the San Jorge-Gandara Municipal
Circuit Trial Court docketed under Criminal Case No. 5913 while appropriate
charges for their other offenses are being prepared for filing in court.
The PNP also is
continuing their manhunt operation against the remaining suspects in the
aforementioned robbery incident.
2 suspects yields drugs, guns, grenade

CATBALOGAN, Samar, Philippines – The Samar Police
Provincial Office has scored another gain in its continuing campaign against
the proliferation of illegal drugs in the province with the arrest of two
suspected drug pushers in two separate anti-illegal drugs operation and the
confiscation of several sachets of shabu, firearms and ammunitions.
PSSupt. Conrado Verzo Calvario (DSC), identified
the suspects as one Anghel Sarona alias Sanggol, 35, married and one
Felix Bantugan Jr. y Quimado alias Boy, 31, single and resident of
Brgy. San Pablo, Catbalogan, Samar. Sarona was apprehended in a raid
conducted in his house in Purok 6, Brgy. Canlapwas, Catbalogan, Samar, by
virtue of Search Warrant No. 03 (PA) 07 issued by Executive Judge Sinforiano
A. Monsanto of RTC Branch 27, Catbalogan Samar at around 1:00 in the morning
of August 19 while Bantugan, on the other hand, was arrested in a buy-bust
operation along Rizal Ave., downtown Catbalogan at around 3:20 in the
morning of August 20.
The raid of Sarona’s house was conducted by
elements of Samar Police Provincial Office Anti-Illegal Drugs Special
Operations Task Force/ Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (AIDSOTF/PDEA) led
by PSSupt. Conrado Verzo Calvario, PSInsp. Carlos Gaudencio Vencio, PSInsp.
Joseph Nicolasora Pensotes and PInsp. Francisco Ricaña Vilar together with
SPO4 Romy Dela Cruz, SPO3 Samuel Rosales, SPO2 Cesar Peñamora, PO2b Jose
Zaldy Rueda, PO2 Nelson Tuazon, PO2 Nelson Lapeciros, PO2 Melanio Amistoso,
PO1 Reynaldo Diocton, PO1 Arthur Perdizo, PO1 Roy Lapura, PO1 Ervin Ariño,
PO1 Romuel Nacar, PO1 Jenny Adona and NISU operative Leopoldo Canis
following a buy-bust operation on the suspect and his apprehension and the
confiscation of the following: ten (10) sachets of suspected shabu
weighing more or less 2.5 grms, one (1) sachet of shabu weighing more or
less 0.02 grms which was bought prior the search, five (5) pcs one hundred
peso bills with following serial numbers (LA281654, GA791469, AR7883094,
GT002779 and AZ707707) as buy-bust money, two hundred forty seven and
twenty five centavos of cash money in different denomination believed to be
proceeds of his illegal drugs activities, one (1) hand grenade, one (1) home
made gun (sumpak), ten (10) pcs live ammo of cal. 45, two (2) pcs live ammo
of cal. 38 and several drug paraphernalia.
On the other hand, Bantugan’s arrest by police
team led by PSSupt. Conrado V. Calvario and PSInsp. Noe G. Alonzo,
Catbalogan Chief of Police resulted in the confiscation of five (5) pcs
plastic sachet of suspected shabu weighing more or less 0.6 grams
with an estimated market value of P2, 700.00, one NOKIA cellphone 3310,
three (3) pcs of cellophane used for repacking, one pc stainless scissor
used for crushing shabu, cash money amounting to P1, 696.00 including
the five (5) pcs one hundred peso bills as marked money, one (1) cal. 38
snub nose paltic marked S&W loaded with four (4) live ammo.
A case for violation of Sec 5 and 11, Art II, RA
9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002) has now being filed in court
against Sarona under Criminal Case No. Y3-H-329, and case for illegal
possession of firearms and Explosives under Criminal Case No. Y3-H328 has
also been filed at Catbalogan MTC while similar cases were also filed againt
Bantugan.
As of this writing, the suspects are currently
detained at Catbalogan BJMP pending the final disposition of their
respective cases.
