Young Mathematics teacher from Leyte among this year’s Outstanding Teachers

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte  –  Ms. Glendale B. Lamiseria, a young Mathematics teacher of the Dulag National High School in Dulag, Leyte is among this year’s Outstanding Teachers of the Philippines.

For winning in the recently concluded search, Ms. Lamiseria did not only win for herself a trophy and P250,000.00 in cash but also who honor for her school, the province of Leyte and the entire DepEd family in Eastern Visayas.

The winners for this year’s Search for Outstanding Teachers sponsored by the Metrobank Foundation, were bared over the weekend. From the nearly 200 nominees from all over the country for the elementary, secondary and higher education levels, ten (10) teachers were chosen for their admirable contributions in the advancement of the education sector as well as in community development.

Ms. Lamiseria is one of the four secondary teachers who are included in this year’s awardees. The other winners in the secondary level are Ruben L. Abucayon of Alegria National High School in Surigao del Norte, Norma C. Pacaigue of Novaliches High School in Quezon City and Cynthia Bangero of Barotac Viejo National High School in Iloilo.

The awardees in the elementary level are Fredo T. Lareles of Ateneo Grade School in Quezon City, Jeneluj C. Cunanan of Lanao Central Elementary School in Kidapawan City, Madeline B. Rivera of San Pablo Central School in San Pablo City and Leticia N. Palle of Malaybalay City Central School.

National Book Awardee and renowned poet Belinda S. Santos of Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City and internationally acclaimed physicist and National Academy of Science and Technology awardee Cesar Saloma of the University of the Philippines in Quezon City, are this year’s awardees in the higher education category.

The winners were chosen by a competent panel of judges with Senator Richard Gordon as the chairman and which include Supreme Court Associate Justice Ma. Alicia Austria Martinez, Negros Representative Carlos Lacson, Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Esperanza Cabral, Taguig Mayor Sigfrido Tinga, De La Salle Philippines President Brother Armin Luistro FSC, Philippine Stock Exchange President Francis Ed Lim and columnist and TV host Lourdes Sytangco.

Metrobank Foundation’s Search for Outstanding Teachers which was established in 1985 honors educators who have dedicated their lives to mentoring the youth through classroom instruction and beyond, by serving as role models of excellence in their respective communities.

The past winners have gone on to form the Network of Outstanding Teachers and Educators, an honor society that actively works towards the elevation of teaching through professional development and advocacy, in partnership with the government and non-government institutions.
