This rice crisis is the result of Filipino culture who look down on farmers as failure people which means if you cannot pass school then your destiny is farming. This is bullshit. The rice crisis is because the world's population is growing. If there is any failure it is in the GMA Admin and the Catholic Church for discouraging contraception. Farmers are not looked down upon. Good grief the majority of people around here are farmers and they are all good hardworking people. They get some money in their pockets and they party by drinking tuba until the money is gone and then they once again go back to farming. NO ONE here looks down on them. You obviously have a serious perception of life problem. The biggest problem for this rice crisis is compounded even more because the government which is suppose to have farm program like those industrialized countries, our own Philippine government has has a stupid farm program run by corrupt stupid officials. The problem lies in not in imports but in the ability of farmers to get SBA type loans for seeds, fertilizer and farming equipment. This is due to banks that are allowed to fore-go loaning money to farmers because they get credits for making other allowable loans. We can blame both Government and the BSP for allowing this trend to continue. It does not make sense to import cheap rice from surplus from other countries which we have been importing for many years mostly under Arroyo administration who ordered her military to kill rice farmers in the hinterlands because the President of the Philippines accused them of being NPA members. Start naming nonmilitant rice farmers that were killed. I doubt you can name even one. Todays rice crisis is costing the Filipinos billions of pesos. Take for example, we have been buying rice recently from surplus rice from other countries at high price then sell it to Filipinos at low price because Arroyo is scared of riots. DUH. This is purely a political move to keep the peace. Look at India and Burma where people are just plain mad because there are food shortages not because of Government but because the uneducated people reproduce at a rate that the food supplies will NEVER keep up with. It is called evolution my friend and if you can not be responsible and not have six to nine kids then your going to be hungry. Simple as that. While we are buying rice at higher cost, we are actually giving billions of pesos to the farmers in countries where we are buying rice from. If this billions of pesos were otherwise given to the Filipino farmers, equipped them with tools, machineries, fertilizer and government training for productive planting, then we Filipinos will become sufficient and we might be able to sell our surplus rice. It is a wasted billions buying high and selling low which the loss is the profit of other countries. NOW THAT THAILAND AND VIETNAM SAY THEY CANNOT SELL RICE TO FILIPINOS BECAUSE THEY WANT FOOD SECURITY FOR THEIR OWN PEOPLE, what would Arroyo do now for the crisis she created. Would she tell the Filipinos to eat kamote, What is the Philippine Congress doing for the lack of leadership under Arroyo administration. With so many stupid minds running the country, the Philippines is still sinking. WHY CANT WE TRY THE CPP. Maybe they have better minds. The Philippines is sinking because even though we have a somewhat literate populous we still can not not stop our tendency for repeated copulation without contraception. Then the older children are forced to drop out of school and support the younger children by going to work or farming. It would not matter who the President was now or for the last several years as our problems would still be the same if not worse than what we have today. Why because it is OK to take money for votes. It is OK to have 6 - 9 children. It is OK to steal from someone vs work hard and earn you own money! The CPP NDF NPA has yet to even propose where to place irrigation projects. Nor have they identified farmers that would better produce natural food farm products. You want to try a method that has failed over and over and over again. If and when the CPP ever did have any plan other than total control and domination of the populous, I for one might say lets go for it. At the moment they don't have a plan other than to keep costing us money and lives in their irresponsible actions. It is time for the CPP NDF NPA to become responsible and sit down at the bargaining table. Someday soon mortality will catch up with JOMA and then what? After that agreement then lets hope they can present some worth while plans. Currently all they present ix Fodder and propaganda that only steals our youth from the folds of society. Many of which pay for their dumb decisions with their lives. Personally I am tired of burying people that make illogical decisions. Those people could have better served society and their families vs become dead martyrs.
