To my fellow SSS pensioners in Samar: It's about time we lobbied for the increase in our pensions. With the meager amount that we receive every month, we can hardly cope with the continuous increase in the prices of prime commodities. If the President seems to be oblivious to our cause, being busy defending herself against her detractors, we appeal to our Congressmen in Samar to initiate the move in Congress.

Perhaps, the officials concerned don't realize that SSS pensioners, who are mostly elderlies or senior citizens, were the ones who built the SSS foundations with their monthly contributions. If it were not for them, the SSS would not have been what it is today.  Samar Congressmen: Kamo la an pwede mag duso sini.  Matuman kunta.

Fifty years ago this month, Samar High School granted Diplomas unceremoniously but memorably to members of Class '56. Little is known about their individual achievement and glory after graduation, but their indelible marks in pursuit for knowledge and love of learning have raised the standard of excellence on their Alma Mater and have been a bench mark to the next generations of students. It's not easy to quantify these legacies of Class '56 in concrete terms, but higher forms of knowledge are almost always expressed in abstract forms from classical times to modern eras.

The Class of '56 entered a turbulent world of ideological struggle whose idealism was prematurily ended, and realism was hesitantly embraced. The promise of a successful life was as elusive as their dreams. The choices were few and obstacles were plentiful. However, members who persevered did not allow their idealism to diminish nor their realism to overwhelm, others went with the flow, if you will.

Today, members of Class '56 are free as they were 50 years ago, free to live, free to chose, and free to dream. Not a bad record after they passed the tests of 23 years of failed social experiment and 2 episodes of misguided regime changes of Edsa 1 and 2. Like the Greek goddess Prometheos, Class '56 will always live the promise of Samar High.

At this writing, there is an ongoing signature campaign in favor of the proposed cha cha.  I am not discouraging anybody to sign or not to sign. All I want to say is that before making any decision about it, one must weigh carefully the advantages and disadvantages of the proposal. Whether you are for or against it, let us not be influenced by politicians with vested interests.  As for me, I'd rather be influenced by my own conscience and, most of all, by enlightenment from Almighty God. So be it to everybody.

For a change, why not introduce the exchange of humor in the website to make it more lively. For example, after completing his serious message, the writer may contribute a joke or humorous story or anecdote.  The warays are known for their strong sense of humor, and this proposal might attract other kahimungto. I have no intention of turning this website into a fun center. As I said, he must complete first his serious message, after which he may end his message with .."and here's my joke:..."

I am looking for possible family members that live at Calbayog, Samar island. My grandfather (Paul Nasan Espina) came to the US in 1914 and joined the navy. As far as I know he never went back.
