SENATOR PIMENTEL REJECTS VIOLENT OVERTHROW OF GOV'T: CALL OF THE HOUR IS FRENTE AMPLIO!!!

Winda,

We have been ranting and raving about violent political change. Yes "Banana Republics", "golpe de estados", coup d'etats by the Praetorian guards. Revolutions which result in nothing in Latin America. These are no longer effective strategies for rapid, fundamental, and lasting societal change in poor countries.

And in Asia, the example I keep on harping was the Suharto takeover in Indonesia in 1965 when an estimated 3 million Indonesians, the majority were associated with the PKI were massacred, some dying by violent death, being hack with patalims, like in Rwanda. And within the context of the Communist Party of the Philippines, China and Russia were still swaggering in the world's stage. And yet they could not do anything to prevent the massacre of the so-called communists in Indonesia, the PKI.

And then there is the example of Cambodia when the socialist revolutionaries of the Red Khmer killed 1.8 million Cambodians, out of the 9 million population. For what? So that Ing Samren, Cambodia's leader now, can become their dictator?

The other scenario that comes to mind is the possibility of a "Proxy War", where the NPAs on one hand, and the Filipino soldiers on the other hand who are loyal to Gloria, and the Filipino soldiers who are NOT loyal to Gloria, to simplify the convoluted situation, will be fighting each other at the dictates of the hawks in the Pentagon and the instigators in the People's Liberation Army. They will be testing how effective their White Phosporus bullets and their roadside bombs will be in an archipelagic situation like we have in the Philippines.

This is the reason why I have been ranting and raving about Frente Amplio, a Broad United Front, a Bagong Katipunan! Learn from the Tupamaros in Uruguay. A general, Liber Serengi, was imprisoned for 12 years and then he reached out to the dispossessed, the oppressed, the "descamisados", to form the Frente Amplio. And the dreaded Marxist urban guerillas, the Tupamaros, laid down their arms to join Frente Amplio to pursue their political objectives through the electoral process.

Now Frente Amplio is in control of Uruguay. And Uruguay is reputed to be the most politically stable country in Latin America.

Moreover, the Frente Amplio model is like tsunamis in Latin America these days. Evo Morales, Hugo Chavez, that lady President of Chile. Perhaps the next President in Mexico will be claiming inspiration from the Frente Amplio and another Peruvian.

There is no question we need profound, substantive change in the Philippines. But doing this through killings is already passe. Considering the mindset of the Filipino soldiers, can they be trusted?

And 40,000 Filipinos have already died because of Joma's Armed Struggle. And 120,000 Muslims, according to Tayan Kong, have died because of the unresolved question of our Moro brothers and sisters?

Only the arms manufacturers and the mammoth banks will be very happy.  And they are not residing in the garbage heaps of Payatas, under the bridges and sleeping with the dead in the graveyards in the Philippines.

Subject: [MoonglowPlanet] 2 SENATORS REJECT VIOLENT OVERTHROW OF GOV'T

IN the wake of an alleged coup plot, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. and Senator Ralph Recto on Saturday rejected the use of violence to change the country's political leadership.

Pimentel said a military coup and other extra-constitutional means should be avoided because it could bring about dictatorial rule that could turn the country into another "banana republic."

"There may be a factual basis for the apprehension about a military uprising. But let us not use force or violence because of the disastrous consequences it would cause for the country. If we want to change our national leaders, let us do it through peaceful means," the opposition senator said in a statement.

On the other hand, Recto reminded "those who plan to bring this government down violently" that "fighting fire with fire will only burn the house down."

In a separate statement, the administration senator said the country's "overheated politics needs to be cooled down. Incendiary statements won't help as they would only fan the flames of destabilization."

"Whether consummated or not, coup plots take their toll on the economy. No firewall stands between politics and the economy. Our economy is out of ICU and we're on the road to recovery. Any disturbance in the political front will set us back by years. Let us not shoot ourselves on the foot again," Recto said.

"If our people are reluctant in changing our form of government, the more that they're opposed to a government installed by force," he noted.

To all the Calbiganons,

Recently, there was a devastating incident happened at the Waiting Shed and Boulevard at the boundary of Barangay 3 and 4 respectively. The accused Carlo Sabarre and Ramel Pajarillo was subjected to Malicious Mischief.

For what they've done was greatly demeaning to our town. The suspects applied their manure at the aforementioned places.

As of now there are lots of interested parties wanting the case to be filed in court particularly the Barangay Officials of Barangay 4.

Early this morning at 9, there had been an arraignment at the Barangay Hall at Barangay 3. The two accused party appeared in the hearing together with the Star Witness. Ramel Pajarillo was accompanied by her mother Mrs. Remedios Pajarillo.

Further, Ramel requested for a  30 mins. recess from the presiding officer Brgy. Capt. Paulette Abejuela-Omega. After 40 mins the session resumed whereby Ramel asked for a postponement of the hearing to same time Sunday, 22January2006; for the reason that his mother's blood pressure raised. Afterall, he reasoned that his mom does'nt already recognize him.

May the Almighty help them. Please send feedback.

Our countdown is now 7,906 persons to go! Thanks to all those who have been caring and sharing. Hopefully before the end of the month we shall be able to meet 50% of our target and by the end of February your humble servant hopes to be reunited with his family. it's sad being away but this will also be a chastisement for being a fool hmmm yeah and God knows how foolish I've been. And it seems that the original plan of completing this Journey through a Walk will finally push through! Tomorrow, 17 January 2006, will be the start of a new chapter in the life of the pilgrim! Well, whatever, as long as your humble servant would be able to save his family and give his wife and kid a decent life and more secure future!

For those who would like to start caring and sharing there are a lot of people out there who needs help in different ways and one way of showing your concern is by logging on to  http://www.geocities.com/pilgrimlance/home.html.

Thanks and God bless us all!
